Job Summary

Our internship program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive, well‑rounded understanding of the construction project lifestyle. Based on the Company’s need, individual experience and skill set, the Project Engineer Intern could be assigned to work in our estimating department and/or in field operation department. If assigned to estimating you will gain valuable experience in assisting the estimators by gathering prices, performing quantity take‑offs and delivering bids.

If assigned to operations, you will work directly with onsite project management staff. This could include assisting in sending and documenting RFIs, quantity tracking, attending project meetings, ordering and procuring project materials, documenting extra work, etc.

Take off Manager, Estimators, Estimating Administrator, Area Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, Project Managers and Mentor.

Typical Duties Project Engineer-Estimating
  • Learn about and review project plans, specifications and related documents.
  • Attend pre‑bid meetings and job site visits, taking notes and sharing relevant information with the estimator.
  • Support Senior Estimators by helping with quantity take‑offs and basic calculations.
  • Review bid documents and assist in gathering the necessary information for accurate take‑offs.
  • Work with the estimator to schedule meetings before take‑offs to ensure everything is prepared correctly.
  • Help collect and maintain subcontractor and material quotes as needed.
  • Assist in organizing and reviewing quotes and bid documents during the bidding process.
  • Support the transition of project information from estimating to operations on awarded projects.
  • Help with quantity take‑offs for ongoing projects when needed.
  • Ensure deadlines are met for various tasks and projects.
  • Assist the estimator in preparing and submitting bid documents in a timely manner.
Project Engineer

  • Visit job sites to compare actual construction progress with the original estimate and assist the project manager with addressing any issues that arise.
  • Attend planning meetings with projects engineers, project managers, estimators, superintendents, and area managers to review plans and estimates.
  • Prepare and track Requests for Information (RFIs) as directed.
  • Support project management tasks such as reviewing submittals invoices and change orders.
  • Help manage project materials and purchases, ensuring they align with the project schedule and budget.
  • Learn about and participate in construction planning, design, and problem‑solving efforts on projects.
  • Assist in maintaining project administrative documents, including submittals, billings and daily reports.
  • Help track material deliveries and review subcontractor/vendor invoices.
  • Apply cost‑coding to timesheets and assist with tracking project expenses.
  • Measure and document quantities of work completed each day.
  • Attend safety meetings and support in recognizing and supporting positive safety habits and practices on the job site.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and compliant job site.
  • Observe and report any potential safety hazards and help ensure workers’ safety by working with the team to address these issues.
  • Report any job site incidents or accidents and assist with follow‑up actions.
  • Support the project team in resolving any issues or challenges that come up during the project.
