Senior Business Consultant at Foster Lawson specialising in US Construction-About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Engineer to support and lead the delivery of large-scale general building construction projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area
. This role is integral to project execution, working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and design teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of building construction, excellent coordination skills, and proven leadership experience on complex commercial, institutional, or mixed‑use projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering and technical support for general building projects, including commercial, multifamily, mixed‑use, healthcare, education, and institutional facilities.
- Support project planning, scheduling, and cost control efforts in collaboration with Project Managers and Superintendents.
- Oversee submittals, RFIs, change orders, and document control processes.
- Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents for constructability, coordination, and risk mitigation.
- Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors to resolve design and field issues.
- Manage quantity take‑offs, cost forecasting, and progress tracking.
- Support field operations, including site coordination, logistics planning, and issue resolution.
- Assist with procurement and buyout of subcontractors and material suppliers.
- Mentor and oversee Project Engineers and field engineers, supporting their technical and professional development.
- Ensure compliance with safety requirements, quality standards, building codes, and contractual obligations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- 3+ years of Project Engineer experience in general building construction
. - California Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; EIT or equivalent experience strongly considered.
- Strong knowledge of building construction means and methods, including structural, architectural, and MEP systems.
- Proficiency with construction management and project controls software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, MS Project, Autodesk Construction Cloud).
- Experience working on projects for public agencies, private developers, or institutional clients preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills with a strong field presence.
