Workforce Excellence Specialist, National Tax Operations
The Workforce Excellence Specialist, National Tax Operations (NTO) is responsible for overseeing the schedule and talent deployment process while balancing the vision, mission, and strategy of the consolidated tax practice. The Specialist partners with Regional Tax leadership and National counterparts to drive process improvements across disciplines, delivering significant impact. The role requires delivering high impact projects, turning challenging concepts into scoped projects, and achieving efficient process improvement results.
Knowledge of resource allocation and experience in a similar industry is preferred.
The Workforce Excellence Specialist manages the schedule, talent deployment, and resource planning, ensuring staff assignments align with project skills, availability, and budget. They optimize utilization, implement staffing strategies that enhance customer experience, operational efficiency, and process excellence, and champion workload balancing and professional development initiatives.
Job Duties- Optimizes utilization across the practitioner population by making staffing decisions in support of the deployment strategy.
- Leads all activities related to resource planning and allocation, ensuring timely assignment of staff to projects based on skills, experience, availability, and budget.
- Drives effective staffing strategies that ensure efficiency, positive customer experience, and process excellence.
- Identifies opportunities to optimize resourcing, implements process changes, and champions initiatives with a focus on workload balancing, scheduling, and development.
- Supports the execution of the operational strategy, objectives, KPIs, and roadmap for Tax.
- Serves as a trusted advisor to tax leaders, collaborating to identify issues and execute action plans, and recommending targeted hiring.
- Supports project managers in remedies addressing over utilization, uneven workload, or overtime, reallocating resources as needed.
- Prevents staffing conflicts proactively by surfacing creative alternatives to maximize production while minimizing bench and supporting staff development.
- Reviews staffing data, develops insights on trends, forecasts, and improvement opportunities.
- Leverages automation and reporting platforms for visualizations and transparency in resource skills and scheduling.
- Collaborates to encourage resource sharing across markets and geographies.
- Monitors reports such as utilization, pipeline, and backlog, and identifies key metrics issues and trends.
- Other duties as required.
- Associate’s degree required; AND two or more years of experience in Business Administration, Operations Management, or Accounting OR High School Diploma/GED and four or more years of experience in the same fields.
Skills and Abilities
- Experience in drafting and creating effective internal and external written communication.
- Resource management experience in a professional services firm (public accounting, law firm, etc.) preferred.
- Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining tax processes preferred.
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting metrics preferred.
- PMP Certification preferred.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Power
BI, Smartsheet, People Soft, and One Stream or similar corporate management software preferred. - Strong critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving.
- Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Metrics focus and analytic problem solving.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to manage complex situations, work independently or collaboratively, lead multiple high‑profile projects, and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality.

National Range: $75,000 - $90,000
Maryland Range: $75,000 - $90,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $75,000 - $90,000
