Job Summary

Senior Research Finance Analyst position is hybrid, requiring on-site attendance at the UCSF Mission Bay Campus two days a week, subject to change based on campus directives and/or business needs.

The Analyst will be independently responsible for post‑award administration for several active Principal Investigators in the Department. They provide advisory and transactional services in all areas of post‑award, using advanced contracts and grants concepts to manage high volume and high complexity transactions. The Analyst may review and guide others on the financial and administrative management requirements of research contracts, grants, awards, and/or transactions to ensure compliance with institutional and sponsor policies.

They work independently to assess complex grants, contracts, and sub‑contracts where in‑depth analysis of variable factors is required. They may be eligible for delegated signature authority and may review and sign transactions for less experienced staff. The Analyst may serve as a technical specialist in a particular area, such as federal contracts, state contracts, sub‑contracts, or information systems.

Salary range: $106,900 - $160,300 (Annual Rate). The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Salary placement is dependent on work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.

Department Description

The Department of Cellular & Molecular Pharmacology (CMP) is a basic science department within the School of Medicine and performs research and training. CMP provides administrative and financial services to 11 primary faculty members; 2 adjunct faculty; 35 non‑faculty academics; 33 postdoctoral scholars, 33 graduate students and 17 staff members.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience
  • Extensive knowledge of program administration guidelines of Federal and non‑Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment
  • Ability to manage high volume and complex transactions
  • Ability to perform highly complex financial analysis and customized reporting
  • Demonstrated advanced competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas
  • Maintains knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional and departmental policies. Knowledge of current compliance regulations in all areas of research administration
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles
  • Ability to interpret policy for others
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
  • Experience with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, sub‑contracts, and cooperative agreements
  • Full knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation, Code of Federal Regulations, sponsor‑specific policies, intellectual property policy, conflict of interest requirements, publication rights, application of indirect cost rates and other complex concepts in research administration
  • Advanced knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques
  • Advanced ability to create and train grant writing and other communications skills in a variety of styles to ensure securing grant funding required
