Job Summary
The Public Safety Dispatcher is responsible for the general operation of the UCSF Communication Center, including:
- Process telephone calls for 911 police, fire, medical and non-emergency services.
- Input information into a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System.
- Input data into various Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems and interpret the printout information.
- Operate a multi-channel radio system under emergency and non-emergency circumstances, adhering to FCC rules and regulations.
- Operate a hand‑held two‑way radio for communications.
- Maintain various logs and process various alarms.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Compensation ranges vary; the offered salary will typically be 80% - 120% of the established mid‑point, depending on experience and current salary levels. A detailed range can be viewed using the UCSF Compensation Search (TCS Non‑Academic Titles Search).
Required Qualifications- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- Successful completion of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course within one year of appointment.
- Passing score on POST Entry‑level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery prior to academy.
- Knowledge of Police Dispatching Procedures, including the operation of state‑of‑the‑art telephone and radio systems within one year of appointment.
- Must be able to work shifts on a rotational basis (days, swings and midnights); must be able to work on‑call assignments and/or overtime as required.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Information Technology, Personal Computers, and related Software Applications.
- Knowledge of Police Dispatching Procedures and the operation of state‑of‑the‑art telephone and radio systems.
- Knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Systems.
- California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course Certificate, required within one year of appointment.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
