Oakland-based Baker Tilly is a leading advisory, tax and assurance firm that supports clients across the United States and worldwide. The firm in California is a licensed independent CPA firm that provides tax, accounting and advisory services to small‑business clients through an alternative practice structure in compliance with AICPA standards.
Responsibilities- Be a trusted member of the team delivering tax, accounting and advisory services to small business clients.
- Oversee and provide services pertaining to accounting, bookkeeping and prepared or compiled financials.
- Review and analyze accounting records and/or reporting with clients, provide analysis and consultation, and communicate with clients to discuss accounting and business matters.
- Deliver best‑in‑class customer service to clients at all times, emphasizing responsiveness, timeliness, professionalism and accuracy.
- Lead and plan client engagements, and continuously evaluate processes and procedures within client services and implementation functions with emphasis on implementing efficiencies and identifying internal control issues.
- Provide recommendations for business and process improvements based on knowledge gained relative to the client’s operations, processes, and business objectives.
- Manage and build client relationships, act as liaison to address and resolve client issues, and assist team leaders in researching and providing additional services.
- Effectively delegate and oversee work efforts by setting goals, providing resources, removing obstacles, and scheduling deadlines to meet client delivery expectations.
- Maintain current knowledge of local, state and federal tax practices and laws.
- Assist with managing client engagement staffing, billings/collections, and ensure client profitability targets are met.
- Utilize entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally with clients and the community.
- Invest in personal professional development individually and through firm‑wide learning and development programs.
- Support growth and development of team members through the Baker Tilly Care and Teach philosophy, helping associates meet their professional goals.
- Enjoy friendships, social activities and team outings that encourage a work‑life balance.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; master’s or advanced degree desirable.
- CPA or JD required.
- Five (5)+ years of experience providing federal and state tax compliance, accounting and advisory services in a professional services firm.
- Two (2)+ years of supervisory experience, mentoring and counseling associates.
- Demonstrated management, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, project‑management and communication skills.
- Ability to lead and supervise others, provide exceptional client service, demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and stay current regarding applicable tax strategies.
- Highly developed software and Microsoft Suite skills.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship preferred.
- Non‑profit industry experience preferred.
$106,000 to $183,000. Actual compensation is influenced by skills, experience, qualifications and geographic location.
