Overview

Description
The Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco, is actively seeking qualified individuals for the Accounting Specialist position to perform a variety of difficult and complex accounting and statistical record keeping work in connection with the development, maintenance, and processing of Court fiscal and statistical records; provide financial information and assistance on inquiries concerning an assigned work area; perform general office support assignments;

and perform other job-related duties as required. The Accounting Specialist position provides an opportunity to sharpen and expand financial/accounting skills while being exposed to a wide variety of matters managed by the Court’s Fiscal Services Division and offers insight into the Court’s overall financial process.

This selection process is being conducted in accordance with San Francisco Superior Court Personnel Rule 4. An eligibility list will not be established.

COMPENSATION: $2,425.93 to $3,412.96 biweekly ($63,074 to $88,737 annually)

Responsibilities

Position Overview

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing routine bookkeeping and financial record keeping operations within complex accounting systems. Incumbents post, adjust and balance entries to ledgers; verify the correctness of accounting documents; respond to inquiries and provide financial information; organize and maintain financial and statistical records; perform operations involving automated accounting systems and spreadsheet programs; and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

The role includes performing routine bookkeeping and financial record-keeping operations to ensure accurate balances and available budgeted funds.

  • Post, adjust and balance general and subsidiary ledgers; search out details and resolve numerical imbalances.
  • Verify correctness of accounting documents by comparing postings to source documents and checking calculations for accuracy.
  • Perform complex accounting analysis and financial transaction processing and resolve operating issues.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new operating policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and present basic financial and statistics reports clearly and accurately.
  • Process cash functions such as balancing cash receipts, making deposits, arranging armored pickup, and reviewing cash controls.
  • Reconcile bank statements and revolving fund balances.
  • Process, verify, and reconcile collection and distribution reports; maintain financial distribution data within each case management system.
  • Assist in grant accounting activities including processing, setup, reconciling and reimbursement reports per grant requirements.
  • Organize, prioritize, and coordinate job assignments to meet critical deadlines; monitor budget expenditures.
  • Utilize software related to accounting, including databases, automated accounting systems, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Respond to fiscal inquiries; explain procedures and account-keeping requirements to staff and the public.
  • Perform job-related projects as assigned by supervisor.
  • Work is performed in an office environment with continuous contact with staff and the public. May require travel within the state and county to establish contacts with Court Programs and governmental agencies.

Physical Requirements: Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity; lift up to 25 lbs.; corrected hearing and vision; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer, telephone, calculator, copiers, and fax.
