Overview
The City of San Dimas will host its annual Hiring Event on March 3, 2026, from 5:00–7:30 PM at the San Dimas Senior Center, located at 201
E. Bonita Ave., San Dimas, CA. Doors may close early based on attendance. Applicants are encouraged to submit their application prior to the event and bring a resume, a valid , and be prepared for a brief interview.
Under general supervision this position teaches swimming lessons and/or specialized aquatic classes to the public. Monitors the use of the swimming pool and enforces safety rules; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Conduct swim instruction classes.
- Administer first aid.
- Enforce pool regulations and policies.
- Assist in the maintenance of operational equipment.
- Maintain the pool area, deck and locker room for cleanliness and safety.
- Perform rescues.
- Available to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
A variety of aquatics programs including swim instruction, pool maintenance, first aid and CPR; public relations methods; pool rules and regulations.
AbilityCommunicate effectively both orally and in writing to co-workers, the public and administrators; develop and maintain positive work relationships; prepare and submit written reports; effectively analyze situations and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
Education/Training/ExperienceAny combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- Experience:
Previous experience as a lifeguard and/or swim instructor. Additional experience in organizing and conducting aquatics programs is also desirable.
Possession of a Class C California Driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record during the course of employment. Possession of Water Safety Instructor (WSI);
Lifeguard Training;
First Aid; CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Complete Mandated Reporter Training within 6 months of employment. Bilingual Spanish is desirable.
Physical Demands: Maintain physical fitness, including the ability to swim 300 yards, tread water, and lift, retrieve, and move over 100 pounds; stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift/carry pool equipment, supplies, and furniture up to 50 pounds. Additional testing requirements may be established by the department.
Sensory demands: Talk and hear. Visual requirements include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Mental Demands: Regularly use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math; interact with patrons and staff; handle conflict related to safety standards and practices.
Work EnvironmentThe employee is exposed to wetness and moisture and works outdoors under variable weather conditions. May be exposed to chlorine, acids, and other chemicals at the aquatic facility, as well as blood and body fluids when rendering first aid. May interact with upset facility users and the general public while enforcing departmental policies and safety requirements. Noise levels range from moderate to high depending on pool activity.
Work hours may vary, including evenings and weekends.
