The Shift Manager is responsible for the overall management of the manufacturing facility for a given shift, coordinating the activities of employees engaged in the operation and support of a variety of production and packaging systems. They are responsible for monitoring progress to the schedule and ensuring accurate reporting of employee safety, quality, department efficiencies, labor utilization, materials, and line time, all which are reported to the organization on a daily basis.

The Shift Manager is the primary point of coordination with support teams such as Maintenance, Human Resources, Quality and Supply Chain. The Shift Manager will work towards the achievement of company goals and objectives by meeting customer requirements and cost control, as well as enforcing company procedures and policies related to labor regulations, OSHA Compliance, State, and local laws and ordinances relevant to the operation, staff, and food safety.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Directs the activities of the assigned shift to achieve scheduled production quantities, cost, and quality. Manages the process and personnel through area leads, monitoring progress throughout the day and responding by adjusting the plan as needed.
  • Aggressively monitors and ensures that all employees are trained in safe work practices, and that such are being followed. Displays a personal commitment and diligence to employee to safety by reporting all accidents and near misses to the leadership team on a timely basis. Encourages employee's personal involvement and accountability for safe working conditions and practices.
  • Acts as the primary champion for product quality, constantly monitoring and assessing compliance to specifications and process adherence. Partners with the Quality Assurance team to monitor key process parameters and quality evaluations. Responds to quality deviations and communicates action plans to senior management.
  • Interfaces with other teams in the organization such as scheduling, supply warehouse, and quality assurance to ensure customer deadlines are met and resources are optimized.
  • Trains, coaches, mentors, praises, and provides feedback to the line teams.
  • Inspects and measures efficiency of all facets of production and packaging to verify conformance to standards; thus, seeking out inefficiencies and correcting them immediately for optimal shift performance. Compares current run speeds, waste, and labor usage to align with the playbook procedures and outlined targets.
  • Directs employees in adjustment of process systems to meet product standards. Ensures that no adjustments are made outside of approved boundaries without management approval.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules by reassigning or releasing employees based on the demands of the job.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production and packaging methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency and enhance employee safety.
  • Monitors adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices and leads proactive corrective action.
  • Leads all pre-shift meetings to discuss schedule for the day and any safety training that is needed
  • Ensures the documentation of all training of each employee and ensures that they understand assigned job tasks and that they can perform to the required level of proficiency.
  • Initiates personnel actions, such as performance evaluations, and disciplinary progressive measures.
  • Participates in daily and weekly review meetings and provides commentary on performance and resource needs to achieve scheduled expectations.
  • Works directly with the production and packaging leads to ensure efficiency is met and standards are produced.
  • Monitors each cleaning event between products and reports deviations from the scheduled time required.
  • Identifies defects/deficiencies and coordinates solutions with support team members.
  • Ensure compliance with Internal, Federal, State, and local guidelines and regulations including GMP, HACCP, OSHA, FDA and TTB.
