Material Handler, Forklift Operator
Job Summary
Receives, stores and distributes materials, tools, and equipment within the warehouse. Operates material handling equipment to stow or issue materials. Conducts inventory of materials. Fills pick tickets or requests for materials from workers or vendors. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
Qualification Standards
Experience in stockroom/warehouse environment, to include receiving, stocking and issuing materials. CRT experience as well. Demonstrated knowledge of computerized inventory and material control systems. Ability to operate forklift, order picker, turret lift and accurate accounting skills. NASSCO Forklift certification required.
May have to access and move around ship safely. Ability to work indoors, outdoors, or on a ship. Must be able to read, write legibly, and speak English.
Essential Job Tasks
Receives materials from outside vendors.
Identifies, tags, records, and retrieves materials to be used stocked or issued.
Operates material handling equipment to stow or issue material, equipment, or supplies.
Conducts inventory manually or by computer.
Communicates with vendors and workers in person, in writing and by telephone.
Performs warehouse maintenance.
Materials, Tools Equipment, Work Aids
Fork lift, order picker, turret lift, pallet jack, pushcart, electric cart, stand-up lift, rolling ladder, regular ladder, computer terminal, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, and cleaning equipment.
Physical/Mental Involvement
Frequent to continuous lifting up to 50-60 lbs. without the assistance of manual material handling equipment. Some items lifted may be over a ton, and appropriate equipment or cranes will be used to lift such equipment. Constant carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, balancing, reaching, manual and finger dexterity, seeing and hearing depth perception.
