We are looking for talented individuals to join us for an internship in 2026. PhD Internships at Byte Dance aim to provide students with the opportunity to actively contribute to our products and research, and to the organization's future plans and emerging technologies. Our dynamic internship experience blends hands-on learning, enriching community-building and development events, and collaboration with industry experts. Responsibilities - Optimize image and video codecs for 2D/3D video, Multiview video, et al.

- Design and develop encoding optimization algorithms for various usecases - Research and develop visual quality-oriented video coding and processing algorithms

Minimum Qualifications - Currently pursuing a PhD in computer science or electrical engineering/mathematics/statistics and related disciplines - Good understanding of state-of-art compression/transmission/processing algorithms - Excellent programming, debugging, and optimization skills in one or more general-purpose programming languages including but not limited to: C/C++ and Python

Preferred Qualifications - Experience in development of video coding techniques, both traditional and deep learning approaches - Familiar with one of the video compression standards, e.g., AVS/H.264/H.265/VVC/AV1 and its reference software - Familiar with deep learning frameworks such as Tensor Flow, PyTorch etc - Familiar with deep learning model optimization and acceleration
