Firmware Engineer – Embedded Systems (Wearable Medical Devices)
Full-time | On-site
This role is for a stealth medical device company incubated by Pareto Holdings.
We are building a next-generation wearable biosensor platform that measures biomarkers critical to managing clinical conditions. The company is venture-backed and operating in stealth while developing novel sensing technology at the intersection of biology, hardware, and software.
This is a hands-on engineering role at an early-stage operating company — not a venture capital or finance position.
The RoleWe are seeking a Firmware Engineer to help design, implement, and validate embedded firmware for a wearable medical device platform. You will work closely with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and electrochemists to develop reliable, production-grade firmware that interfaces with novel biosensors and low-power hardware systems.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working close to hardware, writing performance-critical embedded code, and taking ownership of firmware from early prototypes through regulated production environments.
What You’ll Do- Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for wearable medical devices
- Implement low-level drivers for sensors, peripherals, and communication interfaces
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineering on board bring-up, debugging, and system integration
- Develop firmware for data acquisition, signal processing, power management, and wireless communication
- Support integration of firmware with higher-level software and mobile applications
- Write clean, testable, and well-documented embedded code
- Participate in firmware validation, verification, and testing activities
- Support regulatory and quality requirements for medical device development (IEC 62304, ISO 13485)
- Assist with transitioning firmware from R&D prototypes to pilot-scale and production systems
- Troubleshoot firmware issues in development and released products as part of sustaining engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience developing embedded firmware for hardware products
- Medical devices or wearables strongly preferred
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems
- Experience with microcontrollers and embedded platforms (ARM Cortex-M or similar)
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and bare-metal development
- Experience interfacing with sensors, ADCs, and low-power peripherals
- Hands-on experience with wireless communication protocols (BLE required; Wi-Fi, NFC, or RF a plus)
- Comfort debugging firmware using JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes
- Familiarity with hardware–software co-design and board bring-up
- Exposure to regulated product development (IEC 62304, ISO 13485, FDA design controls) is a strong plus
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Nice to have: experience with low-power firmware optimization or wearable form factors
This role includes a combination of office work, laboratory testing, and hands-on prototype development.
Benefits- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Health savings and flexible spending accounts
