The Software Analytics and Global Automation (SAGA) team is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Staff Software Engineer to design and develop robust backend API services using Java and the Spring Boot framework. This role is focused on deep technical contribution, system design, and end-to-end execution of complex backend features. While the position emphasizes hands-on engineering, it also includes opportunities to provide technical leadership, influence engineering standards, and mentor other team members.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in backend systems, distributed architectures, data-driven design, and modern cloud-native development.

• Architect, design, and implement scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Deliver high-quality features end-to-end, ensuring performance, security, reliability, and maintainability across systems.
• Contribute to technical architecture decisions, influencing long-term backend strategy and system design.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product, frontend, QA, and Dev Ops, to define requirements and integrate components.
• Review code and provide constructive feedback, championing clean architecture, coding standards, and engineering best practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, leading root-cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions for complex system problems.
• Maintain and enhance technical documentation, coding standards, and architectural patterns to ensure consistency and quality across teams.
• Stay current with emerging backend technologies, evaluating and recommending tools, frameworks, or patterns that bring measurable value.

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
• OR Master’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
• OR PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
• 2+ years of work experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.

• 10+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering with a proven track record of building reliable, scalable systems.
• Expert-level proficiency in Java, with extensive hands-on experience in the Spring Boot ecosystem, including Spring MVC, Spring Data, and Spring Security.
• Strong background in RESTful API development, microservices architecture, and distributed systems design.
• Deep understanding of core computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and design patterns.
• Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, as well as containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

  SQL, MySQL, and Redis.
• Proficiency with modern development tooling, including Git, CI/CD pipelines, build automation frameworks, and observability/monitoring tools.
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems, deliver high-quality code, and independently own critical system components.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, QA, and Dev Ops teams.
