This is a Contract position. This appointment may be extended or converted to career status based on the needs of the department.
The position is anticipated to span approximately 4 years, with the contract renewed on an annual basis.

Under the direction of Managing Senior Executive Director of Development, Health Sciences Advancement (MSEDOD-HSA), the Philanthropic Officer will be responsible for securing major gifts ($100,000 and above) for the priorities identified by Health Sciences leadership with special emphasis placed on creating and implementing strategies for successful solicitations and building strategic relationships with Surgery faculty and staff. The Philanthropic Officer will be responsible for managing a prospect/donor portfolio in various stages of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Due to the sensitive nature of the fundraising priorities, the officer will be skilled in communicating confidential information and engage grateful patients within compliance. The officer will collaborate closely with colleagues in both Health Sciences Advancement and University Development, maintain a close partnership with Surgery Chair and Administrative Vice Chair, and will serve on additional committees and task forces as requested by Health Sciences Leadership.
The Department of Surgery is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine and is comprised of 102 full time faculty members, 220 voluntary faculty members, 20 physicians employed on MSP agreements, 25 doctors employed by the VA or other facilities, 77 accredited and 13 non-accredited trainees and 100 career staff. Activities are organized in 12 sub‑specialty divisions. Annual expenditures across the Department total over $66.5M with a global research portfolio of over $19M.
