Position Overview
Building Maintenance Supervisors – The County of San Diego is currently looking for BMS. Some positions may receive a Locked Facilities Premium of fifty cents ($0.50) per hour for each hour worked in a locked facility in the Sheriff’s Department.
Interviews will take place the week of January 26, 2026, and job offers will be made the week of February 9, 2026.
Future Salary IncreasesJune 2026 – 4.00% increase to base pay (3.0% Across‑Board + 1.00% Market Adjustment)
June 2027 – 4.00% increase to base pay (3.0% Across‑Board + 1.00% Market Adjustment)
Job ResponsibilitiesBuilding Maintenance Supervisors plan, coordinate, and supervise the maintenance program for county facilities and buildings.
Methods and procedures required for the maintenance and repair of a variety of facility operating systems, fixtures, and equipment.
Parts and materials needed to operate, maintain and repair equipment, systems and structures.
Testing instruments, equipment, power and hand tools, and diagnostic instrumentations.
Safety regulations, ordinances, and laws related to facility operation and maintenance.
Electrical, plumbing and building codes.

Start Date:
Based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.
1) Three (3) years of experience as a Building Maintenance Engineer with the County of San Diego, which must have included one (1) year as a lead worker or completion of a supervisory training course; AND two (2) different certificates in any two of the following areas: electricity, HVAC or plumbing. Each certificate must be equivalent to the completion of a semester course at a college, vocational school, Regional Occupational Program or equivalent program.
2) Four (4) years of experience operating, maintaining, and repairing a variety of building or facility operating systems (e.g., electrical, mechanical, plumbing, air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems) equivalent to the level of a Building Maintenance Engineer with the County of San Diego, which must have included one (1) year as a lead worker or completion of a supervisory training course;
AND three (3) certificates with one in each of the following areas: electricity, HVAC and plumbing. Each certificate must be equivalent to the completion of a semester course at a college, vocational school, Regional Occupational Program or equivalent program.
Prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre‑employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional background investigations may be conducted based on the job‑related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
