Position SummaryJoin Our Team as a skilled Plumber! As a journey‑level Plumber you will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various plumbing systems across campus. Responsibilities include system maintenance, project oversight, team leadership, and safety compliance. You will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Key Responsibilities- Install, maintain, inspect, modify, and repair plumbing systems for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, and fire prevention.
- Troubleshoot and test plumbing systems, including backflow prevention devices, and maintain campus swimming pools and lab utilities.
- Assemble, install, and repair pumps, pipes, fittings, and fixtures; cut, thread, and solder pipes; and manage valves and pipe fittings.
- Estimate costs, time, and materials for plumbing projects, inspect completed work, and ensure compliance with building and safety codes.
- Provide instruction and direction to unskilled and semi‑skilled assistants and collaborate with other trades workers.
- Follow established safety procedures, maintain a clean work environment, and handle hazardous materials safely.

- Full‑time (1.0 time‑base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date six months after start date.
- Non‑exempt under FLSA and eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- Work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
SDSU Facilities Services is a customer service‑based organization providing facility maintenance activities through a transparent and deliberate process. It is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel, and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university.
Education and ExperienceKnowledge: Thorough knowledge of plumbing methods, materials, tools, and equipment, building automation systems, and applicable state and federal health and safety orders and regulations, including California State Safety Orders and California State Plumbing codes.
Abilities: Perform skilled plumbing work on all applicable equipment and systems; perform welding work; obtain backflow prevention licenses; make rough sketches of installations; read and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications; estimate materials and labor costs; maintain records; provide instruction; analyze emergencies; prepare reports; read and write at required level; perform arithmetic calculations. May require a California Driver’s License.
Experience: Progressive training and experience equivalent to a standard plumber’s apprenticeship program, resulting in journey‑level skills.
Key Qualifications- Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in plumbing trade.

- Ability to perform skilled plumbing work on all applicable equipment and systems.

- Valid California Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.
CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,998 – $8,737 per month (Step 1 – Step 20). Step placement will be based on qualifications and experience.
Step placement upon appointment is not expected to exceed Step 11 ($7,311/month) for highly qualified candidates. Future increases subject to contract negotiations.
