    The hiring salary for the HVAC Controls Technician is $34.49 an hour. Full pay range: $34.49 - $40.23 - $46.68. Shift differential: $2.25 for 2nd shift, $2.50 for 3rd shift.

About the Job

The Facilities Management Department is seeking a skilled HVAC Controls Technician who demonstrates technical proficiency and a commitment to excellence in system optimization and reliability. This opportunity offers the chance to contribute to a dynamic environment where precision and innovation support the comfort and safety of the SAN traveler.

This role plays a critical part in maintaining and troubleshooting HVAC systems to ensure peak performance across the San Diego Airport campus. The position calls for journey-level experience, strong mechanical expertise, and creative problem‑solving abilities, paired with a keen eye for detail.

What You’ll Do
  • Conduct installation, preventive maintenance, inspections, adjustments and repairs of electrical and mechanical problems involving heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, building automation controls, thermostats, boilers, belts, pumps, filters, valves, motors, fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, chillers, and cooling towers.
  • Operate computer‑based building management systems, coordinate and inspect work performed by contractors engaged in HVAC systems and equipment installation, maintain and repair HVAC systems, and operate hand and power tools, vacuum pump, and test equipment.
  • Monitor and operate the airport’s central chilled water and heating hot water systems; respond to HVAC related issues; troubleshoot and solve problems associated with HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Prepare cost estimates and order materials; maintain records of work plans and logs, interpret and work from sketches, drawings, blueprints and specifications; complete work consistently with relevant codes.
  • Provide work direction and train other maintenance personnel, assist with cooperative assignments.
  • Operate and drive Authority vehicles, transport equipment to maintain and troubleshoot HVAC systems throughout the Authority campus. Perform other duties as assigned.
