Summary

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, highly motivated, results‑oriented, creative merchant who can execute a product vision and source exceptional products. They will work closely with the Purchasing Director and Senior Merchant to understand product direction and needs, foster strong relationships with vendors, create and execute products to meet partner needs, and deliver budgeted KPIs.

Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities Buying
  • Source, develop, and manage dynamic product assortments that support the departmental and store goals, align with our partner institutions, and maximize sales potential.
  • Work closely with Senior Merchant, Purchasing Directors, Product Development team, Planning and other functional partners to develop and implement cohesive product assortments.
  • Negotiate with vendors to achieve the best possible price, terms, and quality while building strong vendor relationships.
  • Determine initial buy quantities for assortments, partnering with the Planning department and Purchasing leaders as needed.
  • Support assortment execution as needed, including order placement, vendor follow‑ups, and related activities.
Business and Financial
  • Meet or exceed revenue, SKU count, inventory, and margin goals.
  • Regularly analyze your business, identify wins to maximize opportunities, and act on them.
  • Work with Purchasing Directors and the Purchasing VP on overall inventory health and new product approvals.
Management and Operating
  • Foster strong relationships with internal team members and vendors to effectively deliver assortment needs.
  • Work closely with the Merchandise Coordinator, providing any needed direction to resolve any item, PO, or invoicing challenges.
Qualifications And Skills
  • Minimum 5+ years experience in retail product buying and/or product development.
  • Experience with food development and knowledge of shelf life, food safety, and supply chain considerations a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, resourceful, proactive, and a fast learner.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Reliable and meets deadlines.
  • Produces work efficiently and accurately.
  • Team player with strong communication, relationship building, and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable in a fluid environment.
  • High attention to detail, organized, and can effectively prioritize.
