Department OverviewUC San Diego Division of Extended Studies serves as a catalyst for positive change by advancing global access, equity, and social and economic mobility through educational enrichment across the lifespan.
As a fully self-supporting division under UC San Diego Academic Affairs, Extended Studies operates year‑round with a budget of $50 million annually. The division employs over 1,200 instructors and 260 academic and staff employees, delivering exceptional educational experiences that reflect our standing as a top‑tier public research university.
Extended Studies operates in 200,000 sq ft of managed space, including a headquarters building with classrooms and administrative offices adjacent to the UC San Diego campus, plus off‑campus classroom facilities in nearby University City. The division maintains a robust online learning platform, a 24/7 web presence, and oversees two television stations, UCTV and UCSD‑TV, along with public lecture programs and various research and technical assistance activities.
The division also manages UC San Diego Park & Market, a 66,000‑sq ft, four‑story office building in downtown San Diego, hosting a range of civic, community, corporate, and campus events.
Position OverviewUnder the direction of the Chief Impact and Strategy Officer and Director of the Center for Research and Evaluation, the Senior Research Analyst will lead and support evaluation and research projects focusing on education, workforce, public health, and related areas. Responsibilities include research planning, communication with external partners, collecting and analyzing primary and secondary data, and producing publications, reports, and interactive web‑based outputs using tools such as Tableau.
The role requires advanced knowledge of research methodology, sociology, education, and workforce studies. The analyst will independently execute research projects, collaborate effectively with the research team, plan and manage study protocols, and occasionally supervise junior team members. Other duties will be assigned as needed.
Qualifications- Working knowledge of research functions with demonstrated ability to independently carry out small‑ to medium‑sized projects, and support larger studies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of education, social science, and workforce research, evidenced by presentations, publications, and grants.
- Strong project management skills, including development of study protocols, timelines, and oversight of research methodologies.
- Advanced knowledge of survey design and data collection, including experience with Qualtrics.
- Proficiency in data analysis plans, execution of analyses, and manuscript/report writing in education and workforce contexts.
- Statistical analysis skills
