Research Assistant III
Position SummaryThe Jin lab in Dorris Neuroscience Center at Scripps Research is seeking an energetic, bright, and highly motivated individual with backgrounds in chemistry, biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and bioengineering encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will work directly with the principal investigator, collaborate with existing lab members to advance the project, and gain valuable bench‑side and analytical experience in a fast‑paced research environment.
The role will also oversee day‑to‑day lab operations, space allocation, equipment maintenance, and overall lab safety while handling additional matters as they arise.
- Perform non‑routine procedures and resolve complex problems requiring evaluation of intangible variables; exercise judgement in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to obtain results.
- Operate sophisticated scientific lab equipment with accuracy and proficiency.
- Plan, organize, and direct assigned projects; supervise small staff of professional‑level employees.
- Perform complex or novel assignments requiring development of new or improved techniques and procedures; demonstrate initiative, creativity, and problem‑solving to advance scientific goals.
- Facilitate mouse colony management, performing molecular biology and library preparation.
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
- Candidates possessing a master’s degree and 3+ years’ experience are required.
This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions will be addressed during the interview process.
CompensationThe expected hiring range for this position is $68,000 – $81,600 per year, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
