Media Prep Technician

San Diego, CA (On‑site)

What this job involves:

The Media Prep Technician manages and fulfills chemical and biological media orders in their entirety, including calculations, documentation, autoclaving, labeling, and delivery of sensitive formulations critical to experiments conducted by research staff. This role requires precision in handling laboratory materials, maintaining strict safety protocols, and ensuring accurate execution of activities that directly support critical research operations. You will work collaboratively with research teams to understand their requirements while maintaining compliance with regulations and optimizing workflows for maximum efficiency.

What

your day‑to‑day will look like:
  • Fulfill buffer/media/solvent orders with precise calculations and documentation.
  • Request waste removal and ensure proper disposal protocols are followed.
  • Maintain and reorder supply inventory to support continuous laboratory operations.
  • Communicate with supervisor regarding stock levels, material needs, and scheduling requirements.
  • Comply with all regulations and maintain comprehensive documentation for audit purposes.
  • Assist in streamlining and optimizing workflows to improve operational efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate and timely execution of all activities and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Work in laboratory areas using established safety and technical procedures.
  • Maintain strict attention to safety and quality standards at all times.
  • Assist in other Lab Services operations as directed or needed.
Required Qualifications:
  • At least 1–2 years of relevant work experience in a clinical, research, or lab setting.
  • Experience working with general lab equipment, inventory management, and media preparation.
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively work with management and employees at all levels, including customers.
  • Clear communication skills with colleagues and customers, understanding their goals and work priorities.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage, and organize time effectively.
  • Team player committed to customer service and a quality environment.
  • Adequate skills to perform required job functions with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in life science, biology, or chemistry.
  • Prior experience with a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Experience with work order and inventory tracking systems (Corrigo, SAP, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with autoclaving and sterilization procedures.
Work Shift

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Salary / Compensation

$48,000.00 – $52,000.00 USD per year (estimated range; final compensation may vary).

This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
