Associate Veterinarian – Heartstrings Pet Hospice

Location:

National City, CA (and San Diego, Chula Vista, La Mesa, Del Mar, National City, and surrounding area). Salary: $85,000 - $130,000 per year.

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is a privately owned, rapidly growing in‑home euthanasia and end‑of‑life care practice founded on compassion, dignity, and respect. Unlike corporate or private‑equity backed organizations, our focus is on families, patients, and our medical team. You will never be asked to sign a non‑compete agreement.

You will provide compassionate, gentle in‑home euthanasia, hospice, and palliative care. Working independently in the field with full support from a collaborative medical leadership team, dedicated Veterinary Care Specialists, and strong operational infrastructure. The role offers flexibility, autonomy, emotional fulfillment, and a low‑stress medical environment.

• Provide in‑home euthanasia, hospice, and palliative care in a compassionate, Fear‑Free‑aligned manner
• Support families through the end‑of‑life process with empathy, patience, and professionalism
• Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation
• Collaborate with Heartstrings' medical leadership and support teams
• Participate in ongoing training, education, and clinical development

Experience in hospice, palliative care, or Fear‑Free certification is a plus—but not required. Comprehensive training is provided.

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or BVMS) from an accredited veterinary school
• Active (or ability to obtain) veterinary license in the state of practice
• Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license
• Availability to work some weekends as part of a rotating schedule
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and up to 100 lbs with assistance
• Candidates will be subject to a background check and motor vehicle record (MVR) check post‑hire and prior to the associated start date
