UC San Diego values and welcomes people from all backgrounds. If you are interested in being part of our team, possess the needed licensure and certifications, and feel that you have most of the qualifications and/or transferable skills for a job opening, we strongly encourage you to apply.
This is a UC San Diego Internal Recruitment open to UCSD and UCSD Health System Staff Only
Current UC San Diego Health RN/NP applicants will be considered after the first 7 days of job posting. All additional applicants will be considered after 14 days of job posting, pending the status of the initial internal RN/NP applicant pool.
This position is with UC San Diego Health, a Magnet designated organization since 2011, recognized as a gold standard for nursing excellence.
ResponsibilitiesThis position plays a key role in ensuring patients receive timely, coordinated, and high-quality care. The clinic seeks someone with a strong clinical background in liver disease and firsthand experience supporting a busy specialty clinic. Candidates must have at least two years of recent experience in General Hepatology and a minimum of two years of recent clinic triage experience.
The Clinic Nurse Coordinator will oversee a wide range of clinical and patient-facing responsibilities, including triaging patient needs through calls, messages, and concerns—particularly related to liver disease, decompensation symptoms, medication issues, and post-procedure questions. You will provide initial clinical guidance based on established protocols, determine escalation needs, and work with GI/Hep physicians and APPs to ensure timely evaluation and intervention.
Responsibilities also include managing Path Letters for the division—preparing and sending results to patients, confirming accuracy, and coordinating with providers for follow-up or clarification. Maintain close communication with the laboratory and clinical teams to ensure documentation is complete and that patients understand next steps.
Respond to symptom calls, provide safe guidance, document carefully, and ensure follow-through so all concerns are addressed. Manage MyChart communications for GI/Hepatology, review messages, respond when appropriate, and collaborate with providers when medical decision-making is needed. Ensure timely follow-up, patient education, and accurate documentation.
Oversee the clinical inbox to route messages, external results, internal communications, and pending tasks promptly, monitor workflow, identify priorities, and distribute work to support clinic efficiency and patient safety.
Support care coordination to ensure patients have appointments, imaging, labs, procedures, and follow-up visits, working with schedulers, RNs, MAs, APPs, and physicians to prevent gaps in communication.
Maintain accurate and compliant patient documentation, support updates to clinical processes, and assist with quality improvement efforts across the division, including refining triage workflows and supporting new clinical protocols as the division grows.
Ideal candidates enjoy problem-solving, thrive in a fast-paced environment, communicate clearly, and are committed to supporting patient care and clinic operations. If you have Hepatology and triage experience and want to grow within the GI/Hep specialty, apply.
While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position.
