What You Will Do
Assists patients (and parents/guardians), staff and physicians as needed to maintain a high level of efficiency of operations and customer service while providing quality care to the designated pediatric patient population.
Responsibilities- Assists patients (and parents/guardians), staff and physicians as needed to maintain a high level of efficiency of operations and customer service while providing quality care to the designated pediatric patient population.
- Monitors patient flow, physician schedules and completes daily tasks to ensure quality and meet service standards. Completes work within assigned hours. Responds appropriately to changing circumstances and prioritizes responsibilities. Maintains appropriate supply levels. Participates in site inspections. Completes department inventories per guidelines. Enters authorizations in a timely and accurate manner, utilizing both SRS and Rady's authorization processes. Listens to patients and/or guardians, collects pertinent information, recognizes the urgency of the patient's problem and routes to physicians.
Returns phone calls according to physician instruction. May schedule patient appointments. Participates in clinical projects as directed by the physician or manager. - Human Resource Management:
Provides staff training, participates in technical and clinical in-services, customer service training, and mock codes. Serves as preceptor for new staff. Communicates effectively with coworkers and supervisors, respects diversity, and participates in departmental activities such as meetings and training. - Nursing
Competencies:
Successfully completes Nursing Competencies with a score of 90% or greater in each section; follows guidelines for retesting and escalation as needed. - Quality Initiatives:
Completes quality assurance assignments as directed and ensures overall department compliance with requirements. Completes related training as required. - Technical
Skills:
Performs nursing tasks within scope of practice, adheres to infection control policies, assists providers with procedures, and maintains pediatric knowledge on vaccines, growth measurements, screenings, and related care. Utilizes CAIR/SRS and related applications for immunization history and referrals. Performs patient assessments and education as appropriate for pediatrics.
- Successful completion of LVN/LPN program.
- California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) – CA Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians – REQUIRED
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) – REQUIRED
- 1 Year LVN experience in related clinical area.
- Experience as pediatric LVN highly preferred.
- Ambulatory care experience.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – PREFERRED
- Customer Service:
Maintains professional communication with patients/guardians, ensures patient privacy, and adheres to telephone etiquette and protocol. - Department Efficiency and Effectiveness:
Monitors patient flow, coordinates with physicians, maintains supplies, and participates in inventories and scheduling tasks. - Human Resource Management:

Applies infection control and pediatric-specific knowledge; assists with procedures; obtains patient measurements; conducts screenings and patient/guardian education; uses relevant systems for referrals and immunizations history.
- Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse with demonstrated clinical skill and nursing judgment.
- Ability to prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explain procedures.

Sign-On Bonus eligibility:

This is a float pool position that services the following Sharp Rees-Stealy locations:
San Diego Main (Kearny Mesa), La Mesa, Santee, Otay Ranch.

Hours may vary based on department needs. Weekend requirements:
As Needed. On-Call:
No. Shift Start Time: 8:00 AM. Shift End Time: 5:00 PM. AWS Hours Requirement: 8/40 - 8 Hour Shift. On-Call and weekend details are as specified in the job posting.
