The Special Procedures nurse provides pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure nursing care to inpatients and outpatients undergoing pain procedures and minor OB procedures at multiple locations. Assists physicians during endoscopy procedures and performs moderate sedation under the direction of the physician. Identifies and implements nursing interventions, and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations. Directs and acts as a resource to other members of the nursing and tech team and performs other duties as assigned.
Promotes compliance and support for policies and participates in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
This procedure suite RN will be responsible for direct care of all procedure suite patients. This includes pain procedures, OB/GYN procedures, IR procedures and future services added to the procedure suite. RN will need moderate sedation certification and will be responsible for assisting with preop/recover of procedure suite patients.
Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

- Provide pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure nursing care to patients undergoing pain procedures and minor OB procedures.
- Assist physicians during endoscopy procedures and perform moderate sedation under physician direction.
- Identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results for a wide variety of patient populations.
- Direct and act as a resource to other members of the nursing and tech team; participate in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
- Direct care of all procedure suite patients, including pain procedures, OB/GYN procedures, IR procedures, and future services added to the suite.
- Maintain moderate sedation certification and assist with preop/recovery of procedure suite patients.
- Practice autonomous nursing care consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance; exercise independent judgment within interdisciplinary contexts.
- Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
- RN license issued by the State of California.
- BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to obtain UCSD ART within six (6) months of hire date.
- One (1) year recent procedural experience in a setting with procedural suites or operating rooms and/or ED or ICU RN experience.
- Must be able/certified to perform conscious sedation (Moderate Sedation Certification).
- Must be able to work preop, intraop, and postop for procedure.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
- Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills and strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Teamwork skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting.

- Per diem shift requirement is an average of 1 shift per week. Must be available 1 weekend shift every 4 weeks and 1 major holiday. This is subject to change based on department needs.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $190,342 - $190,342 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $91.16 - $91.16
