Overview / Unit descriptionUC San Diego Health is a Magnet-designated organization, a recognition for nursing excellence. Explore an inpatient unit ranging from Intermediate Care to Tele/Medsurg overflow. Thornton’s 2 East is a 26-bed inpatient unit specializing in ICU stepdown, medicine, cardiac, and heart failure. The unit offers a challenging environment for nurses to develop a wide variety of skills.
Autonomous nursing care is the ability to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, expertise, and knowledge. Nurses practice autonomously, consistent with ANA Standards, with independent judgment within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities- Provide autonomous nursing care and appropriate nursing actions based on patient needs, competence, and knowledge.
- Assess patients and implement nursing interventions; monitor and evaluate outcomes, particularly for complex, evolving conditions in a stepdown setting.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality and safe patient care.
- Adapt to a fast-paced environment while maintaining empathy and strong communication with patients and staff.
- Communicate effectively with all disciplines, including technologists, physicians, advanced practice providers, and patients.
- Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
- RN License issued by the State of California.
- BLS and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to obtain ART within six (6) months of hire date.
- Must have at least two (2+) years of recent acute care RN experience in an IMU or PCU setting.
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of nursing-sensitive indicators relevant to PCU/IMU and integrates these measures into daily practice to promote quality and safety outcomes.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results for complex, evolving patient conditions within a stepdown setting.
- Ability to handle unexpected challenges with a patient-centered approach.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrates empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
- Excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all disciplines of staff, including technologists, physicians, advanced practice providers, and patients, both verbally and in writing.
- BSN.
- Recent Cardiac experience.
- VAD experience.
- PCCN, Med/Surg, CCRN Certifications.
- Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Annual Full Pay Range: $138,330 - $193,892 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $66.25 - $92.86
Factors in determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business needs. The Hiring Pay Scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range the University expects to pay for this position. The Full Pay Range may be broader due to internal equity, budget, and bargaining agreements.
