10 East is a 26‑bed acute care progressive care unit with an average 1:3 nurse‑to‑patient ratio. The patient population consists of high‑acuity adult cardiac and medicine patients. Interventions include continuous cardiac monitoring, continuous IV infusions (eg, insulin, heparin, amiodarone, bumetanide, diltiazem, dopamine, furosemide, milrinone, nicardipine, octreotide), non‑invasive mechanical ventilation (BIPAP/CPAP), invasive pressure monitoring, and management of alcohol withdrawal.
10 East Medicine employs a broad mix of nursing staff, from new graduates to seasoners with over 20 years of experience. Educational backgrounds range from ADN to BSN to MSN. Nurses participate in shared governance at unit and organizational levels, contributing to UC San Diego Health’s Nursing Strategic Plan, the development of professional nursing practice, and improved quality outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
- RN License issued by the State of California.
- BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to obtain ART (UC San Diego Health Advanced Resuscitation Training) within six (6) months of hire date.
- Must have at least two (2) years of recent acute care RN experience at the IMU/PCU level of care.
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of nursing‑sensitive indicators relevant to PCU/IMU and integrates these measures into daily practice to promote quality and safety outcomes.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results for complex, evolving patient conditions within a stepdown setting.
- Ability to critically handle unexpected challenges and create solutions with a patient‑centered approach.
- Must be able to function in a fast‑paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
- Must have excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all disciplines of staff, including technologists, physicians, advanced practice providers, and patients, both verbally and in writing.
- BSN/MSN.
- Three (3+) or more years of experience at the IMU/PCU level of care.
- Experience with Medicine and/or Cardiac Patient Populations.
- PCCN Certification.
- Recent experience with navigating and charting within electronic medical records.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call and various locations based on the 24‑hour Medical Center's business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
- Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council.
Annual Full Pay Range: $138,330 - $193,892 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $66.25 - $92.86. Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
