Philanthropic Officer - Surgery (Fundraiser
5) is a contract position in the Development - Health Sciences department. Appointment type is 100% at 116K-145K with a 4-year anticipated term that may be extended. Work location is Torrey Pines Center North; schedule is days, 8 hrs/day, Mon-Fri, hybrid.
Under the direction of the Managing Senior Executive Director of Development, Health Sciences Advancement (MSEDOD-HSA), the Philanthropic Officer will be responsible for securing major gifts ($100,000 and above) for priorities identified by Health Sciences leadership, with emphasis on creating and implementing strategies for successful solicitations and building strategic relationships with Surgery faculty and staff. The officer will manage a donor portfolio through identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Due to the sensitive nature of fundraising priorities, the officer will communicate confidential information and engage grateful patients within compliance. The officer will collaborate with Health Sciences Advancement and University Development, maintain a close partnership with the Surgery Chair and Administrative Vice Chair, and may serve on additional committees and task forces as requested by Health Sciences Leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS- Expert working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
- Demonstrated success in raising major gifts by developing and implementing cultivation and solicitation plans for gifts of $100,000+ from individuals, corporations, and foundations, both local and national.
- Experience in the full spectrum of development including gift policies, solicitations, stewardship, donor recognition, boards, support groups, and administration.
- Expert written and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain relationships throughout the organization and with external constituencies; ability to make persuasive presentations to secure gifts.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and project management skills; ability to set and meet goals within budget and time constraints.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at an expert level.
- Experience in institutional fundraising or equivalent.
- Strong organizational, managerial/mentoring and leadership skills with ability to lead by example and encourage collaboration.
- Proven success as a development officer in a donor-centered fundraising environment as a direct-line fundraiser.
- Interpersonal and team-building skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, faculty, donors, volunteers, and university officials; tact, diplomacy, flexibility, collaboration, professionalism, and discretion.
- Written and oral communication skills demonstrating correct grammar, syntax, and format; ability to present and interpret programs to constituents.
- Experience writing proposals for significant gifts directed to individuals, foundations, and corporations (100,000+).
- Knowledge of donor prospect research and ability to extract critical information from sources.
- Experience with online databases and software to retrieve and compile up-to-date documents and historical information for proposals and analysis.
- Strong ethical conduct and ability to maintain confidentiality in donor relations issues.
- Understanding of quality service philosophy and teamwork; commitment to equal opportunity and diversity in the workplace.
- Experience developing budgets and using financial data for budgetary reports and planning.
- Proficiency with PC environment and Microsoft Office; ability to operate in a networked environment.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $116,000 - $224,200 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $55.56 - $107.38
