Kitchen Skills Assistant
As a Kitchen Skills Assistant, volunteers will help individuals with blindness or visual impairment build confidence and independence in the kitchen. This role goes beyond cooking—it empowers participants to learn practical life skills, improve their nutrition, and foster self‑sufficiency. The support of volunteers creates a safe and encouraging environment where people can try new techniques, develop healthier habits, and feel capable of preparing meals for themselves and their families.
Volunteers will work alongside participants as they learn practical cooking techniques—such as safe knife handling, measuring ingredients, and navigating kitchen tools—while providing encouragement and support. The time and guidance spent by volunteers directly impacts a participant’s ability to live with greater independence and dignity, while also creating a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
