Position: Content and Social Media Specialist (Part Time)

Position Summary:

SDOP is seeking a part-time Content & Social Media Specialist to help strengthen our faith-rooted, grassroots communications work across San Diego. The Content & Social Media Specialist will support digital storytelling, manage social media email communications both internal and external and support media outreach. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about accessible communication that reaches both English and Spanish-speaking community members.

This role centers on collaborating with staff and leaders, producing clear and compelling content, and contributing to a team committed to building a more just and equitable San Diego. What You’ll Be Doing:

This is an exciting new part-time role; the Content & Social Media Specialist will help shape SDOP’s messaging, elevate community voices through digital storytelling, and provide consistent support across social media, email, and media outreach.

  • In partnership with the Executive Director, develop and implement an overarching content/social media plan that aligns with SDOP’s mission, campaigns, and values.
  • Create social media content and manage social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, X, Linked In, TiKTok, as well as monitor our social media posts, stories, and tweets.
  • Conduct regular social scanning for relevant material and trending hashtags, ongoing engagement within the progressive ecosystem, and coalition partner’s accounts.
  • Develop reporting dashboard/analytics of social media performance and strategic recommendations based on performance data and best practices presented monthly.
  • Work with staff to execute collateral and amplify SDOP’s reach and impact through social media and external content.
  • Create newsletter content in English and Spanish, including graphics, videos, posts, and reels.
  • Maintain a social media calendar and track analytics; present to SDOP staff and the board upon request from the Director.
  • Support data maintenance of communication systems.
  • Coordinate content and website updates with SDOP’s website manager.
Who You Are:
  • Connects with and believes in SDOP’s mission.
  • Minimum 2+ years in a similar role within a non-profit setting, social justice, multi-faith organizations or related field.
  • Ability to work with diverse religious, racial and geographic communities.
  • Cultural competence and emotional intelligence to support and nurture a culture of belonging in multi-racial and multi-faith spaces.
  • Self‑motivated, self‑disciplined and flexible; able to work independently and on a team.
  • Experience, comfort, and confidence working with diverse religious, racial, and geographic communities, and especially with clergy and people of faith.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish, including experience editing for correct spelling and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of local political structures, political processes, and community issues.
  • Demonstrated experience being able to tell a story with the information, showcasing impact.
  • Experience managing multiple social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, etc.) and email management tools (such as Action Network, Constant Contact, etc.).
  • Enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment and can pivot while also meeting deadlines and producing high‑quality results.
  • High emotional intelligence; self‑awareness, ability to self‑regulate, high social awareness, and the ability to create and navigate tension toward the creation of something new.
  • A detail‑oriented working style or managing projects.
  • Experience in workplaces that require frequent collaboration.
