Overview

This position is a full-time, facility operations-based role that reports to the CEO. The Production & QA Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the production facility. This includes managing the brewing and packaging schedules, communicating with contract customers and other vendors. This role will oversee, manage & act as the point of contact for all personnel working in the production facility, including brewers, cellarmen, warehousing, packaging, and maintenance.

The Production Manager is at the top of the manufacturing chain and should be able to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating leadership and training staff in production duties.

Responsibilities
  • PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Personnel Management
  • Hire and let go of staff as needed based on performance, safety, and other critical areas
  • Manage labor force to complete required work while mindful of the company’s P&L to minimize unnecessary labor spend
  • Conduct monthly meetings with each employee for team building, individual growth, and performance improvement
  • Set employees’ working schedules, including start/end times and potential mandatory overtime; ensure compliance with state breaks and accurate time tracking
  • Edit timesheets and correct punches in ADP or current payroll software
  • Quality Assurance
  • Lead QA tasks to ensure proper filtration, pasteurization, plating, incubation timing, documentation, and sanitization
  • Inspect and troubleshoot product issues to identify root causes and prevention measures
  • Maintain QA equipment preventive maintenance and supplies
  • Potential off-site training seminars and classes as required
  • Brewing & Cellar Management
  • Oversee brewing and cellaring with active participation in brewing/cellaring activities beyond management duties
  • Ensure proper storage and inventory of chemicals, parts, materials, and product
  • Train staff on SOPs and safety; conduct monthly reviews with each staff member
  • Maintain records for certifications (Organic, Vegan, Kosher, Gluten-Free) and perform annual inspections and communications as needed
  • Ensure EKOS accuracy for tank representation and transfers
  • Communicate equipment maintenance needs to maintenance
  • Warehouse & Inventory Management
  • Track brews and plan ahead to avoid stockouts of Local Roots brands; coordinate with the warehouse manager on procurement
  • Oversee the warehouse manager and ensure performance against their job description
  • Ensure shipments are accurate and ready for timely pickup; accurate order building, assembly, fulfillment, and freight
  • Receive and ship all materials; ensure accurate entry in EKOS
  • Manage brewery shipping & receiving schedule; coordinate dock appointments with freight contacts and wholesalers
  • Enter distributor orders into EKOS, print BOLS, stage and fulfill orders promptly, and post invoice after pickup
  • Maintain tasting room inventory for both package and draft
  • Maintain accurate physical and EKOS inventory of finished goods, packaging materials, and raw materials; rotate inventory FIFO and label appropriately
  • Ensure inventory needed for all brews and cellaring is in place ahead of production
  • Own the warehouse/facility environment; keep areas well-organized, clean, and safe
  • Perform and delegate routine cleaning to maintain facility upkeep
  • Preventative maintenance for warehouse/facility equipment (forklift, scissor lift, pallet jacks, walk-in cold boxes, etc.)
  • Educate and ensure team compliance with federal, state, local warehousing, material handling, and OSHA safety standards
  • Act as main contact for Powered Industrial Truck safety certifications as needed (forklift, scissor lift, delivery van operation training)
  • Packaging Management
  • Oversee the packaging team to meet job expectations; assist in packaging as needed
  • Ensure pre-run checklists are performed (verify product/materials, seams, safety, cleaning, sanitization, and storage processes)
  • Maintain accurate EKOS documentation for total packaged goods after runs
  • Minimize waste and optimize product yield through best practices
