CP Manufacturing is seeking an experienced and hands-on Paint Supervisor to oversee day-to-day paint department operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for leading multi-shift paint operations, ensuring high-quality finishes, safe work practices, and adherence to production schedules and customer specifications. The Paint Supervisor leads Paint Leads and paint personnel across all shifts, coordinates closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance, and drives consistency, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the paint process.
ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Operations
- Supervise and coordinate painters, prep/blast personnel, material handlers, and three shift-based Paint Leads.
- Provide daily direction, coaching, training, and performance management for Paint Leads and their teams.
- Assign work orders based on production schedules, skill levels, and material availability.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between paint operations, production planning, quality, and maintenance teams.
- Act as a hands-on leader, actively supporting daily paint operations as needed.
- Ensure all coated products meet OEM customer specifications, coating thickness, adhesion, and finish standards.
- Verify proper surface preparation, masking, mixing ratios, viscosity, and environmental conditions.
- Monitor WIP levels and adjust staffing to maintain takt time and throughput.
- Perform in-process and final inspections; partner with Quality to resolve defects and nonconformances.
- Lead root-cause analysis for coating defects and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Enforce all paint booth safety policies, procedures, and standard work instructions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, fire code, insurance, and local/state environmental regulations.
- Conduct daily safety inspections of paint booths, ventilation systems, fire suppression systems, and emergency equipment.
- Ensure proper use of PPE including respirators, suits, gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection.
- Verify employee training and certifications for respirator use, hazardous materials handling, emergency response, forklift and scissor lift operation.
- Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and document incidents, near misses, and spills.
- Maintain SDS documentation, chemical inventories, and proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Oversee routine paint booth maintenance, filter changes, airflow checks, and housekeeping.
- Coordinate maintenance for spray guns, pumps, pressure pots, cure ovens, and compressors.
- Maintain inventory of paints, solvents, PPE, and consumables.
- Support Paint Leads in identifying and addressing equipment or facility issues proactively.
- Identify opportunities to reduce rework, improve throughput, and optimize material usage.
- Participate in lean manufacturing initiatives such as 5S, Kaizen, and standard work.
- Implement and maintain SOPs and visual controls across all shifts to ensure consistency.
- Track daily production, scrap, rework, and labor hours.
- Maintain accurate paint logs, batch records, and equipment checklists.
- Support production planning by communicating capacity constraints, lead times, and overtime needs.
- Conduct performance reviews for Paint Leads and provide coaching support.
- 3–5 years of experience in industrial painting or coatings, preferably in an OEM or manufacturing environment.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience, ideally overseeing multiple shifts or team leads.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of paint application methods including airless, HVLP, and electrostatic systems.
- Solid understanding of surface preparation standards and industrial coating systems.
- Knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations related to paint and coatings.
- Ability to read manufacturing drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Strong communication, leadership, and accountability skills.
- Highly preferred:
Bilingual in Spanish. - Industry certifications such as SSPC, NACE, or equivalent.
- Experience with two-component systems, powder coating, or high-performance industrial coatings.
- Familiarity with ERP systems for work order and production tracking.
