Wildcat is seeking a electrical engineer to join our team developing custom research equipment used for the discovery of next generation batteries. This position will work closely with Wildcat scientists and engineers on all aspects of the discovery process. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced, and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits, as they join a world-class scientific team dedicated to developing and discovering advanced materials for lithium-ion batteries.
Responsibilities- Perform routine maintenance tasks around shop & lab on equipment such as: vacuum pumps, robotic research tools, recirculating water chillers, centrifuges and general lab facilities.
- Mechanical assembly of custom research components
- Handle post processing of machined components (deliver or ship components for anodize, laser engraving, electropolish)
- Maintain organization of general shop tools and hardware inventory
- Place orders for hardware when inventory runs low
- Hands-on fabrication as needed: drill & tap holes, use of belt sander and hydraulic press
- Report problems, issues and unexpected observations timely.
- Meet timelines and deadlines consistently.
Skills and Abilities
Required
- Basic hands-on fabrication experience: comfortable using drill press, belt sander, hydraulic press, tapping threaded holes, experience with rosebud torch desirable
- Experience as a CNC machine operator desirable
- Ability to perform maintenance on mechanical systems: disassemble equipment, identify and replace worn components, reassemble and test.
- Comfortable working on roof of building to perform maintenance on lab exhaust system
- Ability to document new assembly procedures using Microsoft Word
- Ability to follow equipment manuals to perform preventative maintenance tasks
- Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with lab technicians, lab manager, engineers, research associates and scientists.
- Ability to organize inventory of nuts, bolts, fittings, etc. and to maintain cleanliness of work areas
- Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with Lab Technicians, Engineers, Research Associates and Scientists.
- Respect others in the workplace with a professional attitude; be considerate of others with housekeeping, shared equipment; provide a safe working environment for others.
- Obtaining respirator certification required
- Past experience in a technical setting (operator, technician, mechanic)
- Technical trade certificate education program, apprenticeship, military training, or equivalent work experience
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
