Overview

SDSU is seeking a dynamic, student-centered, visionary and innovative leader to serve as the Executive Director of Student Health Services (SHS). This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Health, Wellness, and Student Services and provides forward-thinking administrative and clinical leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, accessible, and culturally responsive medical care for a diverse student population of approximately 35,000.

SHS is an AAAC H? (AAAHC) accredited health center. The Executive Director will lead a multidisciplinary team and guide SHS in alignment with the university’s commitment to student well-being.

Located on SDSU’s campus, SHS is an essential part of the university’s holistic approach to student health, well-being, and success. The role emphasizes collaboration with campus partners (including Athletics) and local providers to support continuity of care and a safe, welcoming environment for students.

Primary Responsibilities

Overall Direction and Leadership for SHS (40%)

  • Develop policy in accordance with campus policies on the scope and application of health services vide input and leadership for policy development at the CSU level by serving on system-wide committees or providing data to support these ends.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans for organizational sustainability, program goals, and operating procedures for SHS to provide visionary leadership and direction for the department and to foster a health campus community focused on student-centered care.
  • Identify strategies for generating revenue resources for the department and communicate plans and expectations to staff and university administrators.
  • Supervise and guide staff in the interpretation and application of policy for operational programs and goals.
  • Serve as a department head within the Division of Student Affairs and work to fulfill the Division’s mission and goals through SHS services and programs.
  • Develop and implement administrative policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure continual review and assessment of programs to adapt to changing student and university needs.
Campus, Community, and Public Outreach
  • Provide high-level direction and guidance to administrators, faculty, staff, and students on health-related issues.
  • Contribute to campus policy and decision making as requested by University leadership.
  • Lead SHS operations with SDSU risk management and CSU Office of General Counsel for related situations.
  • Serve as a public health subject matter expert for the campus.
  • Act as the university’s point of contact and lead with the County of San Diego HHS for public health situations.
  • Interact professionally with students, parents, student organizations, alumni, faculty, administrators, professional societies, and others to advance SHS goals and ensure high-quality medical/health programs and education.
  • Represent SHS on various University committees as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Strat Com to facilitate health-related communications with outside agencies as needed, including other CSU campuses, city/county/state health departments, and healthcare providers, especially during emergencies.
  • Serve as a university spokesperson on and off camera regarding health-related issues where appropriate.
Program Development and Evaluation
  • Develop and implement policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain measures for ongoing review and assessment of programs to adapt to changing needs.
  • Commit to creating and improving programs and services as needed.
  • Serve as the Department HIPAA Privacy Officer responsible for assessment, implementation, and reporting of compliance and violations.
Personnel and Fiscal Management
  • Oversee and manage all department resources, including budget and facilities.
  • Oversee staff management and accountability, including selection, orientation, supervision, training, development, and evaluation.
  • Supervise and evaluate the SHS Management team and ensure attendance, accountability, and professional development.
