Overview

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient and uninterrupted operation of a modern food processing facility, equipped with complex electrical and mechanical systems including boilers, ammonia compressors, air compressors and hydraulic systems. The Maintenance Manager will oversee the overall operation and maintenance of processing equipment, repair, troubleshooting and upgrading systems, tools, building and grounds. This position requires adherence to maintenance best practices, including continuous improvement and total productive maintenance (TPM).

While providing direction to the maintenance team ensuring compliance with various regulations for food manufacturing such as USDA, FDA, OHSA, EPA, DEQ etc. This position will manage all maintenance costs for the plant and department budget.

Responsibilities
  • Create an environment where safety is a primary concern and assist in resolving safety issues in the plant.
  • Supervise and direct the maintenance team and staff by providing training and development. Provide job expectations and role clarity with team members to promote ownership and achieve minimal downtime.
  • Lead talent development activities for front-line maintenance team; assess technical skills of the maintenance team; build and drive development plans for each team member to ensure maintenance knowledge and skills are developed. Ensure safety training is provided and proper safety practices are followed.
  • Coach, mentor and develop team members to meet current and future business requirements. Collaborate with Human Resources on interviewing, hiring, training, rewarding and addressing and resolving employee relations issues.
  • Coordinate and direct day-to-day maintenance operations, determine needed repairs and improvements, troubleshoot and resolve problems with machinery, equipment and facility by responding on call 24 hours.
  • Establish project timelines and deliverables by prioritizing and assigning work tasks, and scheduling work to meet facility needs.
  • Establish KPIs for the maintenance team, track results and report to Senior Management.
  • Participate in designing and developing future production capacities by attending engineering meetings; coordinate with Research & Development regarding product changes and improvements; update maintenance operating procedures and schedules to incorporate changes.
  • Collaborate with engineering on plant projects, develop and implement modifications and improvements; recommend specifications and scheduling for contracts, including negotiating prices and inspecting contractor work to ensure safe practices and SOPs are followed.
  • Monitor and maintain the safe operation of the ammonia system; conduct ammonia safety and rescue training and Haz Woper training.
  • Determine the preventive maintenance cycle for each part or function of active equipment to minimize production downtime; direct workers in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance.
  • Plan and perform preventive maintenance, ensure completion of activities and keep records; document departmental activity through reports, work orders, maintenance schedules and other records.
  • Prepare, implement and monitor the departmental budget; maintain and track manufacturing assets, parts inventory, purchase orders, invoice approvals, and manage the department budget.
  • Determine minimum and maximum parts inventory levels by reducing parts usage through PMs, root cause troubleshooting and analysis of worn parts.
  • Plan capital expenditure budget with the General Manager and control inventory of asset equipment.
  • Control and monitor the usage of incoming water and wastewater including BOD and TSS.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Associates degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a high-paced manufacturing environment
  • Five (5) or more years related experience in a high-paced manufacturing environment.
