Description

The 21st Century India Center (21

CIC) is an interdisciplinary hub advancing research, scholarship, and dialogue on contemporary India. This position requires a leader with in-depth understanding of India and U.S.

-India relations who can bridge academic excellence with strategic program development.

The incumbent is a highly experienced professional who provides comprehensive operational leadership for 21

CIC by administering all finance, human resources, facilities, and related operational activities. Oversees day-to-day functions that enable seamless execution of the Center's interdisciplinary research, scholarship, and dialogue on contemporary India, maintaining the administrative infrastructure that supports faculty research, student engagement, and public scholarship on India's evolving role in the global community.

Designs and coordinates signature workshops, public lectures, policy forums, and symposia that engage scholars, policymakers, and community stakeholders on critical India-U.S. issues. Leverages broad expertise in academic program management, international development, and India studies to analyze complex operational challenges, develop innovative solutions, and drive continuous improvement across all Center functions.

Working in close partnership with the Faculty Director, helps shape the Center's strategic agenda, identifies and pursues funding opportunities, and advances institutional priorities that position UC San Diego as a leading voice on India. Exercises independent judgment and strong collaborative skills, managing multiple high-priority initiatives with a high degree of autonomy.

Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong Hindi language skills.
  • Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results. Significant experience working in international settings with diverse stakeholders in different cultures.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
  • Solid fundraising experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of contemporary India, including political, economic, social, and cultural dynamics, and understanding of U.S.

    -India relations and their strategic importance.
  • Strong understanding of development challenges in India gained through working in the international development field and on the ground in India.
  • Strong relationship-building and partnership development skills to cultivate collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Established network with leaders in academia, government, and private sector.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to coordinate multiple complex, time-sensitive initiatives simultaneously
Special Conditions
  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $88,000 - $161,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $42.15 - $77.39
