Director of Accounting – ICW Group
ICW Group is seeking an experienced Accounting Director to lead the finance team, manage regulatory reporting and supervise accounting operations. The role is based in San Diego, California.
Purpose of the JobThe Accounting Director directs the staff and activities responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting. The role initiates, develops, and administers accounting practices and policies throughout the organization, ensuring accurate financial and operating reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop functional department policies, procedures, and processes.
- Creates plans to meet unexpected situations, new developments, and changes in the business environment.
- Understands the factors and conditions affecting the organization and responds appropriately when driving factors change.
- Enforces and maintains operating practices and policies for the department.
- Works to minimize error and maximize productivity through continuous modification and refinement of accounting procedures.
- Manages Accounting department objectives and compliance.
- Establishes and monitors performance objectives for the Accounting department and reports on accomplishments.
- Ensures that systems are in compliance with acceptable accounting practices and applicable regulations.
- Directs the work and performance of managers and supervisors responsible for financial reporting, general accounting, treasury, and payroll activities.
- Oversees Model Audit Rule compliance and monitors federal and state tax compliance.
- Oversees regulatory financial reporting and audits, including managing completion of state data reporting requirements and preparing financial information.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial information and establishes a reporting calendar.
- Guides financial and regulatory audits.
- Develops and leads a team of Accounting personnel in the Finance department.
- Provides strategic direction to the team, communicates mission, values, and operational principles.
- Ensures performance and outcomes strive for excellence in delivery and customer experience.
- Establishes hiring criteria, onboarding, and training requirements.
- Conducts performance management and coaching for direct reports.
- Manages budget, technology, and other resources for the department.
- Ensures data quality, IT security compliance, profitability, and risk metrics.
Directly supervises employees within the Accounting team and performs all hiring, training, performance, and disciplinary duties in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university;
Accounting, Finance, or related degree preferred. - May require a CPA and/or MBA.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in public and/or private accounting.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in progressively responsible management positions.

Knowledge and Skills- Thorough knowledge of computer applications related to accounting and financial management systems.
- Ability to manage multiple accounting operations areas simultaneously.
- Broad, in-depth understanding of accounting principles, concepts, operations, and practices.
- Highly developed written, oral, and presentation skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with management, employees, regulators, and external auditors.
- Demonstrated leadership competencies and ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise employees.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong organizational, detail-oriented, and self-motivated approach.
- Adaptable to shifting workloads and capable of building positive relationships across the company.
Office environment – employees regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.
