Position: MACHINIST LEADER (EXPERT)

Summary

You will serve as a MACHINIST LEADER (EXPERT) in the DEPARTMENT OF NAVY to include work sites of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. This position is located in Shop 31. Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example:
If you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A.

Salary: $30.11 to $50.37 per hour. Salary information is listed in the Additional Information section.

Duties
  • You will inspect completed and in-process work for quality of workmanship and adherence to requirements, specifications, standards, plans and schedules.
  • You will train and mentor less skilled employees and demonstrate proper work methods and viable alternatives.
  • You will perform research to continually improve trade processes and keep shop personnel apprised of new technologies, procedures, best practices, and tooling improvements.
  • You will assure safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • You will plan, operate, and troubleshoot various types of equipment used to manufacture and overhaul marine components from start to post-work review.
  • You will pass instructions from supervisors and provide an overview of tasks to other workers.
  • You will serve as an Expert Machinist leading a group to ensure work assignments are completed.
Requirements Conditions of employment
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Within the DoD, the appointment of retired military members within 180 days following retirement may be subject to 5 USC 3326.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination and annual physicals.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to wear PPE (helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, respirators, safety shoes) during shifts.
  • Work may involve potentially harmful physical and chemical agents; medical surveillance may be required.
  • Travel to CONUS and OCONUS sites and travel on aircraft may be required.
  • This is a Mission Essential position and requires maintaining operations as directed.
  • Work may involve cramped positions and lifting up to 60 pounds.
  • Shift work, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required.
  • This may be a Drug Testing position; pre-employment drug test may be required and random testing possible.
