Medical and dental benefits are provided to regular employees who work a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Basic Job Assignment:

Under general supervision of the Area Director, Site Supervisor and/or Lead Custodian, performs custodial and cleaning duties at the NHA administrative offices, Head Start centers, Conference Center and other sites as assigned; prepares Conference Center rooms and facilities for meetings; and performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

• Proper cleaning methods and the safe usage of cleaning materials, disinfectants, janitorial tools and equipment;
• Use and minor maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment used in custodial work;
• Safety practices and equipment related to the work;
• Proper mixing and dilution of cleansers, disinfectants and stripping agents;
• Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.

Ability to:

• Understand and follow written and oral instructions;
• Safely operate automobiles and small vans;
• Complete assignments independently without immediate supervision;
• Be flexible with work schedule and assigned sites;
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.

Experience and Training:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school, or G.E.D. equivalent; and one year of custodial experience.

Licenses, Certificates & Special Requirements:

Certification in Pediatric First Aid and CPR must be met within 90 days of employment. Must meet and maintain State law and County licensing requirements regarding employment in a childcare center (Fingerprints, TB, Physical and Immunizations).

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to one-hundred (100) pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use simple arithmetic reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or new skills; work under deadlines with constant interruptions; and interact with staff, the public and other organizations.
