Paralegal - Litigation & Judgment Enforcement

We’re looking for a sharp, resourceful paralegal to join our small but mighty team in San Diego, where judgment enforcement meets serious strategy. The ideal candidate is action-oriented, able to work independently, and thrives in a fast-paced collaborative environment.

About Wolverine Ventures Management

WVM is an investment firm with business activities in distressed real estate and brokerage, private lending and judgment enforcement. Headquartered in San Diego, we maintain an active nationwide judgment portfolio, and its principals have been involved in the purchase and sale of over $500M in distressed loans, real estate and judgments.

The Role

The Paralegal is part of our in-house team, reporting to the Senior Paralegal and supporting the management team, independent counsel, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquire a working knowledge of assigned caseload, understanding the background, current status, upcoming deadlines, potential challenges, and desired outcome. Review new documents and accurately keep calendars and dockets up to date. Provide status updates to key stakeholders as needed.
  • Complete due diligence tasks for potential acquisitions in a timely manner, including case research, debtor and asset investigation, real estate title searches, lien and debt analysis, and drafting investment memoranda.
  • With the assistance of counsel, coordinate basic enforcement activities, including preparation, service and tracking of subpoenas; garnishments and levies; debtor’s and third-party exams; and obtain necessary documentation to domesticate judgments in additional states.
  • Prepare and file/record abstracts of judgment, judgment liens, requests for notice, writs of execution, satisfactions, or similar documents and renewals/amendments thereto.
  • Perform legal research, in-depth case analysis, and memoranda of law as needed (civil and bankruptcy).
  • Prepare confidentiality agreements, letters of intent and purchase agreements; maintain versioning and redlines through execution.
  • Review, proofread, and cite-check draft pleadings, briefs, and similar legal documents prepared by counsel.
  • Participate in frequent conference calls with management, staff, and outside counsel.
  • Track and manage a high-volume caseload, prioritizing tasks with precision and accountability.
  • Track and ensure adherence to licensing requirements related to debt collection and judgment enforcement in jurisdictions where the company is active.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Must meet California paralegal requirements under BPC §6450(c), such as completion of an ABA-approved or institutionally accredited paralegal program; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in one or more key areas: judgment enforcement, civil litigation, debt collection, bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, or real estate.
  • Detail-oriented professional able to meet tight deadlines on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Effective team player with strong communication skills and well-developed organizational habits that produce accurate, consistent, and reliable work product.
  • Proven ability to produce persuasive, concise and factually accurate written work.
  • Capacity to work independently in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, uncompromised ethics, and integrity in all work.
  • Ongoing learner who stays current on developments relevant to judgment enforcement and asset recovery.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the Lexis Nexis product suite.
  • Enthusiasm for leveraging AI-assisted research and drafting tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.
