UC San Diego health system is seeking a Communications Specialist to operate as the Health System Operator for three hospitals and multiple outpatient locations. The role involves operating a Cisco Call Center phone system, processing a high volume of calls using established scripts and procedures, providing telephone information, directory assistance, and on-call information, as well as messaging services and EMR in-patient information.
The incumbent may also support staff/faculty listings and the departmental directory and on-call information listings, and perform other administrative functions as required.
- Operate the Cisco Call Center phone system for three hospitals and multiple outpatient satellite locations.
- Process a high volume of calls using department-established scripts and procedures; provide telephone information, directory assistance, and on-call information.
- Provide messaging services and EMR in-patient information; maintain supporting materials and databases.
- Monitor, respond to, and process life-critical codes following specific procedures; document tasks accurately.
- Provide customer service for the department; troubleshoot issues and create repair tickets in the enterprise Track It database.
- Maintain staff/faculty listings to support web messaging, departmental directory listings, and on-call information listings.
- Perform other administrative support functions as required.
- Two (2) years of previous related experience in a communications and/or administrative support role for a large, complex system.
- Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly and handle a high volume of calls in a large call center.
- Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with staff and physicians in person.
- Proven accurate typing skills with proper formatting and proofreading skills of own work.
- Strong attention to detail, including data input; knowledge of internet browsing.
- Knowledge of Cisco Call Center phone system.
- Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and EPIC.
- Knowledge of UCSD Health System departments.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Flexible to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays for staff coverage.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay transparency information:
Annual Full Pay Range: $58,380 - $58,380 (prorated if appointment percentage < 100%);
Hourly: $27.96 - $27.96. Factors in determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and other needs. The posted range may be broader due to internal equity, budget, and applicable agreements.
If employed by the University of California, comply with vaccination policies and any applicable directives. Some life-support certifications require hands-on practice.
