RMC is seeking a Systems Engineer IV to support the SRDT&E / RDT&E network at NIWC PACIFIC - Point Loma, CA
. We are seeking an experienced Linux Engineer to design, deploy, and support enterprise-grade RHEL, Rocky, Alma Linux, and Ubuntu environments. The ideal candidate has 5–7 years of hands-on Linux administration, strong knowledge of OpenSSL/PKI/X.509, SELinux troubleshooting, and virtualization (KVM/VMware/Cloud).

Experience with web servers (Apache/Nginx), identity integration (LDAP, SSSD), networking services (NTP, DNS, firewalld), storage management (LVM, RAID), systemd, package management (dnf/apt), and file system permissions is required. Proficiency in log analysis (journalctl, /var/log), monitoring/alerting tools, ITSM ticketing workflows, and Bash scripting is essential. Ability to automate tasks, enforce security best practices, and collaborate across teams will ensure the reliability and performance of our critical infrastructure.

This is a Linux-focused position.

This role involves collaborating with stakeholders across various departments to analyze requirements, design solutions, and ensure technical performance across the lifecycle of multiple government systems.

• Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to analyze requirements and design solutions.
• Design, deploy, and support enterprise-grade Linux environments (RHEL, Rocky, Alma Linux, Ubuntu).
• Manage virtualization technologies (KVM, VMware, Cloud) and ensure secure, reliable operations.
• Administer web servers (Apache/Nginx), identity services (LDAP/SSSD), and networking services (NTP, DNS, firewalld).
• Handle storage management (LVM, RAID), systemd, packaging (dnf/apt), and file system permissions.
• Perform log analysis (journalctl, /var/log) and utilize monitoring/alerting tools; participate in ITSM ticketing workflows.
• Develop Bash scripts and automation to improve task efficiency and enforce security best practices.

• Active DoD security clearance required.
• Linux OS fundamentals: RHEL, Rocky, Alma Linux, Ubuntu.
• Security:
  OpenSSL/PKI/X.509; SELinux troubleshooting.
• Virtualization: KVM/VMware/Cloud VM provisioning.
• Web & Identity Services:
  Apache/Nginx, LDAP/SSSD integration.
• Networking: NTP, DNS client, firewalld, basic TCP/IP concepts.
• Storage: LVM, RAID configuration and management.
• System Management: systemd services, dnf/apt packaging, file system hierarchy & permissions, user/group administration.
• Scripting & Automation:
  Bash fundamentals.
• Monitoring & Troubleshooting: journalctl, /var/log analysis, monitoring & alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Zabbix).
• ITSM:
  Ticketing/workflow handling (Service Now, Jira, etc.).

Salary at RMC is determined by factors including location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, and contract-specific requirements. The salary range for this position is $168,700 - $211,300 (annually).
