Mission Edge is looking for a PRN Residential SUD (Substance Use Disorder) Counselor to support our dynamic residential program focused on LGBTQIA+ addiction recovery, mental health, and housing. The role offers flexible PRN hours (As Needed) with a pay range of $25.00‑$28.50 per hour based on registration/certification level.

Position Summary
This is your chance to join a dynamic team of SUD counselors who are keeping some of San Diego’s most vulnerable populations safe and healthy. Our Residential Program houses 31 residents and provides SUD counseling, peer support, therapy, and other wrap‑around services to support clients in achieving sobriety. As a PRN Residential SUD Counselor you will assist the full‑time counseling team with group counseling, documentation, resident interactions, data entry, and other day‑to‑day program needs.
This is a non‑caseload position designed to maintain continuity of services during staff absences, high census periods, and agency needs.
- Support facilitation of SUD groups and programming during daytime shifts
- Document group activities, progress notes, and other required logs per program and funding guidelines
- Assist with administering daily Med Calls
- Conduct and document resident drug screens
- Complete tasks assigned by the Lead Counselor or Program Manager
- Help resolve interpersonal issues between residents when appropriate
- Support residents in following residential rules and routines
- Attend required trainings and meetings when scheduled
- Uphold confidentiality and privacy standards in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR, and agency policies
- Maintain a trauma‑informed and culturally competent approach when working with residents
- Support transportation of clients to off‑site meetings or events
- Perform other assigned duties as needed
- Registered or Certified SUD counselor in the state of California
- Cultural competency and familiarity with the LGBTQIA+ community
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for client interaction and record keeping
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and shifting priorities within a residential setting
- Compliance with all agency and contract requirements related to trainings, public health, certifications, and reporting
- Ability to pass all pre‑employment screening, including references, education verification, a criminal background check (at least one year of clear probation or parole), a drug test, and a negative TB test
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- One year of experience working with SUD clients
- Previous experience in an SUD residential program setting
- Experience with Smart Care and/or other electronic health record systems
- Experience with Optum SUDPBH county forms used for SUD documentation
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English (written and spoken)
Physical Requirements
- Work primarily indoors but also outdoors with residents
- Regularly lift 15 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
- Holiday, evening, and weekend work may be required
