Health Education and Literacy (HEAL) Program Specialist
Reports to:
Program Development and Impact Manager
FLSA Status:
Non-exempt, Full-time (1.0 FTE)
Implement SURVIVORS’ Health Education and Literacy (HEAL) Program that focuses on reducing stigma around mental health and increasing understanding of and access to mental health services for diverse and vulnerable populations through culturally and linguistically appropriate methods.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct community outreach engagement activities to isolated or underserved populations with a special focus on newly arriving Afghans and their families
- Serve as a mentor, sharing own experiences and demonstrating ability to role model effective coping skills, self-help strategies, and use of community supports and resources
- Develop and lead mental health literacy workshops, wellness clubs, and peer counseling sessions
- Refer clients to community agencies for additional legal, health, social, employment and educational services
- Schedule interpreters for client services
- Demonstrate boundaries consistent with professional standards
- Communicate, represent, and promote clients’ perspectives within SURVIVORS and the community-at-large
- Identify critical care issues for team meetings and supervision
- Seek guidance from and report crises to supervisor
- Complete all program documentation as required and in a timely manner
- Participate in all agency functions including development outreach and events
- Represent agency in relevant community meetings
- Adhere to HIPAA and other privacy and security safeguards
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Two years of related work experience, including lived experience with mental health recovery
- Experience working with diverse ethnic populations
- Bilingual in English and Dari/Farsi and/or Pashto
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving and organizational skills
- Ability to plan, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports
- Must have reliable, valid California driver’s license and adequate auto insurance
- Strong commitment to the mission of Survivors of Torture, International
Competitive compensation and benefits are offered. Health Education and Literacy (HEAL) Program Specialist position offers compensation of $32 per hour.
