Location details: ACTRI, in Dr. Case's lab (CASE Laboratory) in the Department of Anesthesiology.
Responsibilities- Assist with basic laboratory operations and NIH-funded clinical trials involving healthy volunteers and chronic pain patients under supervision.
- Perform routine laboratory maintenance and provide support for personnel.
- Conduct remote and in-person psychophysical and brain imaging studies, including a study of noninvasive nerve blocks during MRI.
- Recruit and screen study participants; collect and analyze data from human participants.
- Prepare regulatory communications (e.g., Institutional Review Board filings) and assist with training and onboarding of new lab members.
- Train and oversee undergraduate volunteers in the lab; perform other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from high school or GED plus one year of laboratory experience, or two years of college with courses in natural, physical, or social sciences and two years of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of safe human testing procedures (CITI training; experience with IRB).
- Skills in data management and coding (e.g., E-prime, R, FSL).
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Knowledge of personal computer programs including word processing, basic coding, SPSS, Word, Excel, and Unix.
- Ability to adhere to UCSD safety and environmental guidelines.
- Ability to work effectively with human volunteers and patients.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
- Must be willing to work with hazardous materials.
Pay Transparency Act:
Annual Full Pay Range: $48,295 - $56,794 (prorated if appointment percentage < 100%).
Hourly equivalent: $23.13 - $27.20.
Factors in determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business needs. The stated range may be broader depending on internal equity, budget, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
Additional InformationIf employed by UC, vaccination requirements may apply. Life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable where applicable.
