Description

Established in 1978, Moores Cancer Center is the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. This designation is reserved for centers with the highest achievements in cancer research, clinical care, education and community contributions. Under the direction of the Medical Director of the Moores Cancer Center Infusion Center, the Sr. Physician Assistant (PA) will function as a provider of patient care for patients receiving treatment in the Infusion Center.

The PA will provide patient care oversight, including management of toxicities and/or reactions to IV treatments. Direct supervision will occur by assigned medical oncologists. The position requires a strong emphasis on the management of patients undergoing cancer and non-cancer related treatments, including clinical trials, BMT, chemotherapy, biologic and immunotherapies. While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position.

This position will primarily be based at Moores Cancer Center but will also provide patient care coverage for our various infusion locations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
  • California Physician Assistant (PA) license.
  • Current PA Certification from NCCPA.
  • Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
  • One (1) or more years of recent work experience as a licensed Physician Assistant in heme/onc, infusion, and/or internal medicine with a strong focus on patients with hematologic or oncologic conditions.
  • Theoretical background in: anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency and critical care medicine, management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery, therapeutics including pharmacology, counseling techniques and interpersonal dynamics.
  • Proven ability to perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in a clinic setting.
  • Must understand purpose, required supplies and/or equipment, how to perform procedure accurately, infection control, and accurate documentation of medical chart.
  • Strong ability to manage own patient load.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) or more years of Oncology Infusion or Hematology Oncology experience with a strong internal medicine background as a Physician Assistant.
Special Conditions
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years.
