Responsibilities

Serve as the MRI Safety Officer (MRSO) with authority and accountability for day‑to‑day MRI safety carton cross assigned departments, including supervision of staff either directly or indirectly.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge and proficiency in all MRI testing procedures, clinical operations, and safety standards, acting as a clinical and technical resource to MRI technologists, students, physicians, and operational staff.
  • Collaborate with MRI leadership (MRMD/MRRD, managers, supervisors, imaging physics, executive/associate directors) to develop, implement, enforce, and audit MRI safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Develop, document, update, and introduce safe working sisse procedures for the MRI environment in accordance with ACR guidelines and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Ensure MRI safety practices are consistently enforced, including screening, zoning, access control, equipment testing/labeling, emergency procedures, and MRI‑safe practices.
  • Provide expert safety consultation for non‑ olish MRI procedures and special patient populations, including patients with implants, metallic foreign bodies, tattoos, research protocols, and other MRI‑related risks.
  • Oversee MRI protocol development and changes in conjunction with imaging physics to ensure compliance with all state, federal, accreditation, and system safety requirements.
  • Ensure all MRI‑related equipment entering restricted MRI zones is tested, approved, documented, and clearly labeled according to safety standards.
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of all MRI safety documentation, including policies, work instructions, emergency procedures, equipment inventories, and personnel training records.
  • Develop, deliver, and monitor initial and ongoing MRI safety education and competency training for all staff who work in or around the MRI environment.
  • Ensure senior leadership and management are informed of MRI safety training requirements, policies, and compliance expectations.
  • Provide leadership, operational support, and technical guidance across imaging sections to support program implementation, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, accrediting body, and institutional regulations and standards of care related to MRI safety, quality assurance, and diagnostic effectiveness.
  • Oversee or manage assigned MRI safety and imaging programs, including day‑to‑day operations, administration, audits, accreditation activities, and system‑wide MRI scanner accreditation.
  • Maintain accessibility and availability to support operational staff with MRI safety concerns, including partial remote responsibilities as required.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, staff, physicians, and leadership, promoting a culture of safety, service excellence, and collaboration.
  • Responsible for updating, maintaining, and training staff on new procedures, protocols, and safety initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide MRI safety oversight and operational support across multiple facilities and locations within the health system.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training; OR a Bachelor's Degree in business, healthcare administration or related area діт, plus five (5+) years of MRI experience/training.
    • Registered Technologist for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) issued by ARRT or ARMRIT.
    • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within 6 months of hire date.
