15189 accredited and CLIA/CAP clinical laboratories offer a test menu focused on biomarkers which are clinically actionable to support therapeutic decisions, measurable residual disease (MRD) testing, patient stratification, and trial enrollment, all designed to accelerate approvals of new oncology drugs and treatments. - Medical Laboratory Technician I/II is responsible for training, receiving, and accessioning specimens for testing, assisting Clinical Laboratory Specialists, and pre-analytical testing for specimens received.
- Perform basic clinical testing procedures, basic data entry, and filing functions for the clinical laboratory.
- Provide professional customer service to clients.
- Performs all aspects of pre-analytic workflow to ensure orders are entered correctly, specimens collected are appropriate for the test ordered, and are correctly processed/transported.
- Verifies specimens for add-on tests and generates add-on test orders; evaluates specimens for appropriateness and documents unacceptable specimens.
- Support operational lab staff with biorepository activities; organize and store samples of biological material, blood, bone marrow aspirate, cells, and DNA.
- Perform sample receiving and accessioning by following relevant SOPs; aid and gather information from customers to complete accessioning; verify labeling and specimen acceptability.
- Perform some aspects of clinical testing protocols including semi-automated and manual DNA isolations; quantify and normalize isolated DNA; conduct biorepository activities and store samples for research and patient testing.
- Operate laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuges, automated cell counters, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, fluorometer) and use automated equipment that analyzes multiple samples simultaneously.
- Perform a quality secondary review of work (e.g., accessioning, data entry) to ensure accuracy.
- Perform post-analytic activities such as distribution of results, filing testing documentation, archiving samples, and checking for data entry errors.
- Ensure quality of operations by initiating Quality Occurrence Reports and Customer Complaints, meeting competency standards, and maintaining continuing education requirements.
- Ensure integrity of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) by following established protocols and contributing to maintenance and enhancements.
- Follow all required safety, privacy, and biohazard procedures and standards.
- Provide customer service excellence: answer phones, maintain HIPAA and PHI confidentiality, and send reviewed results to clients.
- Perform inventory control for laboratory supplies in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner according to professional standards and internal procedures.
