Description
The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within the UCSD School of Medicine with clinical programs, basic science and clinical research, and educational opportunities for students, residents and fellows. MCAP
The UCSD Mother Child & Adolescent Program (MCAP) provides comprehensive and integrated HIV care, prevention, social services and clinical research to women, infants, children and youth affected by HIV and related conditions. A multidisciplinary team delivers outreach, testing, linkage to care, medical care, health education, nutrition education, mental health counseling, case management and peer support.
Role
The Community Education Specialist 2 works as part of a multidisciplinary team to support routine HIV, Hepatitis C and Syphilis testing within the UCSD health system, collaborating with program leadership and data specialists. The incumbent will assist with follow-up and linkage to care for identified cases and contribute to program development and evaluation.
Responsibilities
The incumbent uses professional community education concepts to deliver and enhance standardized educational programs and volunteer programs as needed. Analyzes program content and delivery needs to determine effectiveness and identify underrepresented constituencies. Participates in recruitment and outreach for the assigned program. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Four years of related experience, education/training, OR an Associate degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.
- Continuing education in related field.
- Working knowledge of departmental and organizational policies and procedures; knowledge of educational program content and objectives.
- Working knowledge of delivering community educational programs.
- Working knowledge of current community education programs and trends.
- Working skills to produce and deliver programs.
- Working knowledge of conducting needs assessment.
- Good analytical skills to understand how business needs can be addressed through the development and delivery of training programs.
- Good reading, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation skills.
- Skill in using business software systems (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).

Pay Transparency
Annual Full Pay Range: $51,000 - $84,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%).
Hourly Equivalent: $24.43 - $40.61
Other Information
Factors in determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other needs. The Hiring Pay Scale is the budgeted range the University expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may vary by internal equity, budget, and agreements.
