DESCRIPTION

The Visual Learning Lab, directed by Dr. Bria Long, is seeking a full-time Research Coordinator to begin in Summer 2026, with a flexible start date. The lab uses behavioral and computational methods to investigate how we learn to derive visual meaning.

This position will focus on hands-on data collection with infants and children, both in the lab and at local partner sites such as children’s museums. The Research Coordinator will take significant ownership of planning and executing testing sessions, including developing and implementing participant schedules, interacting with families, and ensuring high-quality data collection. The role also includes managing participant records and maintaining compliance with IRB protocols.

This position offers opportunities to build skills in experimental design, data analysis, computational methods, and scientific communication, including co-authorship on publications and presentations. The coordinator will be an integral member of the lab community, participating in weekly lab meetings and the broader intellectual life at UCSD.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience interacting with parents and working with infants or children, preferably in a research or professional setting.
  • Familiarity with basic computer programming and ability to quickly learn new technical skills.
  • Demonstrated skill interacting with colleagues and other adults in a professional setting.
  • Strong organization skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Highly self-motivated, able to solve problems independently and with initiative.
  • Written communication skills needed for corresponding with families and coordinating with colleagues.
  • Experience assisting with behavioral or cognitive neuroscience research.
  • Ability to manage multiple schedules and coordinate participant testing independently.
  • Must have reliable transportation for commuting to offsite testing locations.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
  • Willingness to transfer some weekday hours to weekends for data collection with families that cannot participate during the week is preferred.
  • Travel to local testing sites throughout San Diego required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $48,295 - $56,794 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $23.13 - $27.20

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
